Idli and Sambar


Calories : 40 per serving
Serves : 8-10
Time : 5-6 min

Ingredients:-

For Idli:-

:: 1/2 cup semolina (rawa/suji)
:: 1/2 cup curd
:: 1/2 cup water
:: 1 tsp fruit salt
:: 1/4 tsp soda-bi-carbonate
:: 5-6 curry leaves
:: 1 tbsp roasted cashewnuts
:: 2-3 dry red chillies
:: 1 tsp mustard seeds
:: salt (to taste)

For Sambar:-

Ingredients for Dal:-
:: 1/2 cup arhar dal (toor dal)
:: 2 onions (chopped)
:: 100 gm cauliflower
:: 2 brinjals (chopped)
:: 1 cup pumpkin (chopped)
:: 1 drum stick (swanjne ki phali) (cut into pieces)
:: 2 tomatoes (chopped)

For Tempering:-

:: 2 tbsp tamarind paste (imli)
:: 1 tsp chilli pd
:: 1 tsp turmeric pd (haldi)
:: 2 tsp oil
:: 1 tsp mustard seed
:: 6-7 curry leaves
:: 3-4 dry red chilli
:: 2 tbsp sambar pd
:: a pinch of asafoetida (heeng)
:: salt (to taste)
:: 6 cups of water

Method for Idli:-

1. Mix all the above ingredients together to make a thick batter.
Pour in greased microwave safe idli moulds and microwave (covered) at
60% power for 5-6 min. Serve with coconut chutney and sambar.

Method For Sambar:-

2. Wash and soak dal for 15-20min. Add 6 cups of water, soaked dal
salt and turmeric powder. Microwave in a microwave safe bowl at 100%
power for 10-12 min. Standing time of 5 min. is given.

3. in a microwave safe bowl add oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves, red
chillies, asafoetida and chopped onions. Microwave at 100% power for
3 min. Add chopped vegetables and 1 cup water. Microwave (covered) at
100% power for 7-8 min. Mix these cooked vegetables with the cooked
dal.

4. All sambar powder and tamarind paste. Microwave covered at 80%
power for 5 min. Allow to stand for 5 min. Serve hot with dosa, idli,
vada or boiled rice.
